Pāngarau

Dear Whānau,
Welcome back!

Term 4 is a busy one and it would be great if you could ask your tamariki to share some things they are learning with you.

Next week we are looking at solving mazes and giving directions in maths. Encourage your child to use language such as left, right, over, under, near, far, to describe where objects are in relation to each other. Ask your child to describe the path they would follow to get out of their room if there was a fire. Ask them to describe the route they take to get to school. Using this kind of language helps to develop the maths ideas.

We are continuing on with our Inquiry theme from last term and integrating a lot of Digital Technology here too. Our school Athletics will be held in Week 6 and we are preparing for that with a couple of practices a week (weather depending, thanks Palmy).

I hope you enjoyed a restful break and I look forward to our final term together this year.

Book Week

Last week (T3 W4) West End School celebrated book week. We were very lucky to have a handful of parents/grandparents come in and read to us in room 13. Below are some photos. On behalf of our class I would like to thank you all very much, and also parents that did email but for whatever reason weren't able to come in.

Something for you to be proud of... during the week our class hosted a 'West End' radio station over the school intercom. Each child took part in the announcing and most of this was done in Te Reo Māori. They all did a wonderful job and I was especially proud of their courage and persistence!!

Wahanga toru - Term 3

Tena Koutou

I hope you have enjoyed a good break from school and enjoyed spending time with each other. I have loved spending some quality time with my children and staying wrapped up inside in the warm on cold days. I am looking forward to a great term of learning and fun. Our Inquiry this term is around water/water pollution and I am excited to see where it leads with what our tamariki are interested in. Hopefully we can get a couple of trips in this term for some education outside of the classroom (EOTC) but will keep you informed. Swimming will be starting back up week 16 Sept and skipping will be our main physical education focus.

Hei āpōpō!

Tuhituhi- Describing

Kia Ora e te whanau

We have been learning about adjectives and how to describe things from seven different perspectives. When you have a chance, ask your child what the seven different perspectives are and check out their latest post :)

Tuhituhi- Roz the Robot

We have been reading a book called the Wild Robot by Peter Brown.

The main character in the story is a robot. She has arrived on an island and has to learn how to communicate and survive. We have had lots of class discussions on how we would make her feel welcome if she arrived at our school (great for kids to consider when new students arrive).

The children have done some writing on what they might to do become her friend.

Enjoy :)
